Hospitals, pharmacies, and Medical practices across the U.S. are learning about this great way to help their employees and receive a revenue boost at the same time. The Empower Priority HRA reimburses employees only for medical expenses purchased through their employer. For example, a hospital with an in-house pharmacy could choose to reimburse prescriptions only when purchased at their pharmacy. The employee loves getting reimbursed for the eligible expense, and the hospital enjoys the extra revenue from sales to employees.

How it works
  1. The Employer decides what expense categories and retailers receive “Priority”. This means that expenses in this expense category are only eligible for reimbursement from a specific retailer. For example, only prescriptions are eligible for reimbursement when purchased from the Employer’s on-site pharmacy. Claims filed for purchases from another retailer will be denied by Empower.
  2. The Employer decides what expenses are eligible for reimbursement from any provider. For example, the HRA could reimburse all other Section 105 expenses besides prescriptions when purchased by any provider. This is not required, however. The Priority HRA could reimburse only for the expense category in the first step above.
  3. Employees receive debit cards and can receive HRA reimbursement through claims. The debit card is “turned off” for the expense category in step #1 above. The employee submits claims and Empower reviews each claim to ensure purchase from the approved merchant.
