Congratulations on enrolling in your Employer’s Health Savings Account (HSA). An HSA is a great way to save on medical, dental, vision, and/or dependent care expenses and save for your future.

Set up Your Online Account
Setting up an online account is not required, but helps you manage your HSA. Below are examples of what you can do with your Online Account:
- Check your balance
- Submit claims
- Order a replacement debit card
- Add your bank account for direct deposit
- Manage your Investments (if your account has reached a dollar value threshold)
Note that the Online Portal and Mobile App use the same username and password. If you set up your username and password using one method, you will use the same credentials to log into the other.

How to Create Your Mobile Account
- Using your mobile device, click one of the links above (depending on the chosen device).
- For Apple iOS users, click Get on the download screen.
- For Google users, click Install on the download screen.
- Open the EMPOWER Flex Mobile App after downloading.
- Click the New User? Set up your account to start setting up your account.
- To validate your identity, the on-screen prompts will ask you to provide:
- Full name
- Social Security Number
- Zip code
- Note that this is the zip code that you used when you enrolled in your benefit.
- Once you verify your identity, you will be asked to provide answers to your security questions.
- Save your answers to these questions because you may be asked to provide these answers again.
- Create your username and password.
- Note that you will be prompted to accept the HSA agreements when you log in for the first time.
Accept Agreements
Before you can use your HSA, you must accept the HSA Agreements. There are two ways to accept the agreements:
How to Accept the Agreements Online
- Log into your EMPOWER Online Portal Account for the first time.
- You will be taken to a screen that will require you to accept the agreements.
- Click Read and agree next to each agreement.
- Scroll to the bottom of each agreement.
- Click I have read and agree to the Custodial Agreement.
- Repeat for all agreements.

- Follow the instructions on the agreement.
Receive your EMPOWER Flex Debit Cards
Your Debit Cards will come with instructions. Please note that, if you are a new participant, your cards will not be active until the first day of your new Plan Year for new participants.
Depending on when EMPOWER receives your enrollment, you may not have your EMPOWER Visa Debit Card before the start of the new Plan Year. If that is the case, you may still use the other reimbursement methods listed below until your card arrives.

Reimbursement Methods
EMPOWER offers the following methods to access your FSA funds:
- Use your EMPOWER Flex Visa Card
- Pay for the expense using your own form of payment and submit a claim form to EMPOWER for reimbursement. Click here to download the claim form.
- By default, you will receive a mailed reimbursement check unless you add your bank account and set your secondary payment method on the online portal (if permitted by your Employer).
- Receive a direct deposit to your bank account by following the instructions below (if permitted by your Employer).

- Log into the EMPOWER Online Portal.
- On the Portal homepage, hover your cursor over the Accounts tab.
- Click on Banking/Cards under the Accounts tab.
- On the Banking/Cards page, click Add Bank Account.
- Enter your banking information and click the Submit button.
- Within the next two business days, EMPOWER will make a deposit and withdrawal under $1.00 in your account. Look for this transaction in your bank account.
- After this transaction has occurred, you will see a new task in the task section on the homepage of your Online Portal.
- Click the task.
- Enter the dollar value of the micro-deposit.
How To Enable Direct Deposit with Form
- Download the Direct Deposit Form.
- Follow the instructions on the form.
How to Start Investing
You can invest your HSA funds after your account reaches $2,000.
How to Start Investing
- Log into the online portal.
- Click Manage Investments on the home page.
- Click Start Investing on the following screen.
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
My HSA Planner Tool
EMPOWER’s My HSA Planner is a great tool to help you:
- Set your annual HSA goal.
- Set your long term goals.
- Identify estimated out of pocket expenses.
How to Access the My HSA Planner Tool
- Log into the online portal.
- On the home screen, click the Launch My HSA Planner button. (or click here to access outside of the online portal)
Balance Transfers
EMPOWER makes it easy to transfer HSA funds if you have multiple accounts. Below are examples of when to use a balance transfer:
From another custodian to EMPOWER:
Use when you have an old HSA that you no longer contribute to. Moving this balance to EMPOWER can help you save on HSA fees and make it easy to manage all your funds in one account.
From EMPOWER to another custodian:
Use when you terminate employment at your current Employer and move to an Employer with an HSA not administered by EMPOWER.
Transfer your HSA Balance from another custodian to EMPOWER
- Download EMPOWER’s HSA Transfer Form.
- Fill out the form and send to the administrator of the HSA you wish to send to transfer to EMPOWER. Do not send this form to EMPOWER.
- Typically, in two to four weeks, the prior administrator will send a check (less any fees) to EMPOWER. EMPOWER will deposit this check into your new HSA within two business days of receipt.
- The balance on the Online Portal and Mobile App will update when the transfer is complete.
Transfer your HSA Balance from EMPOWER to another custodian
- Contact your new administrator to receive their HSA Transfer form.
- Send the completed form to EMPOWER.
- EMPOWER will mail a check (less any closure fees) to your new adminiitrator to deposit into your account.
Update Your Beneficiary
EMPOWER recommends to add a beneficiary to your HSA account and update it as your needs change.
How to Update Your Beneficiary using the Online Portal
- Log into the online portal.
- Hover your cursor over the Accounts tab.
- Click on Profile Summary under the Accounts tab.
- Click the Add Beneficiary link.
- Enter the information for the beneficiary and click the Submit button.

- Follow the instructions on the form.
How to Make Contributions Outside of Your Payroll Contributions
Your Employer will deduct HSA contributions from your paycheck based on the annual election that you provided when you enrolled. You are allowed to make additional contributions throughout the year as long as your total annual contribution during the tax year does not exceed the IRS limits. You have the following options to make additional contributions:
- Contact your Employer to make a one-time payroll deduction.
- Make a one-time contribution on the Online Portal.
- Fill out the HSA Contribution Form and send a contribution check to EMPOWER.

- Log into the Online portal.
- Hover the cursor over the Accounts tab.
- Click on Contribute to HSA under the Accounts tab.
- If you have not yet enabled Direct Deposit, follow the instructions to enable Direct Deposit on this page.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to make the contribution.
