Adoption Assistance FSA

An Adoption Assistance Flexible Spending Account (AAFSA) allows employees to save on adoption expenses. Employees can contribute pre-tax funds and Employers can choose to contribute.

Coverage

Eligible Expenses

  • Adoption fees
  • Court costs
  • Attorney fees
  • Related travel expenses

Non-eligible Expenses

The following are some expenses not eligible  for AAFSA reimbursement:
  • Surrogate parenting arrangement
  • Step child adoption
  • Expenses incurred in violation of state or federal law

Who Can Contribute

Employees and Employers can contribute to an AAFSA.

Advantages of an AAFSA

Employers

  • Employers can choose to contribute to employees’ accounts or only allow employees to choose to make pre‐tax contributions. Either way, this provides a great benefit to adopting parents

Participants

  • Employees with adoption expenses can save on state and federal
    taxes.
